Who is a candidate for a face lift? |
|
One or more of the following conditions may indicate
that you are a good candidate for a face lift : - A deep line, or fold,
running from the corner of your nose to the corner of your mouth. - Jowls,
or loss of a well-defined jawline associated with youthfulness. - Deep
wrinkles in the cheeks and sagging of the "highlight" areas of the cheekbones.
- Loose skin, wrinkles, vertical "cords" or excess fatty tissue in the neck. |

What is a face lift? |
|
As we grow older the skin covering the fatty tissue on
our faces begins to loosen and sag in various places. This loosening of skin
produces wrinkles and enhances the skin folds of the face, especially around the
jaw, chin and neck area. Rhytidectomy, or facelift, is a procedure that tightens
the muscles and skin of face producing a younger looking appearance. In many
cases a facelift is performed along with other procedures such as brow and
forehead lifts, eyelid surgery, facial liposuction, chin augmentation and nose
surgery. |
 |
How is a face lift performed? |
|
Because of individual factors, not everyone will
achieve the same results from a facelift. Your plastic surgeon will select the
surgical technique that he or she feels will obtain the best outcome for you. |
 |
Where are the face lift incisions placed? |
|
Although there are many variations to the facelift
procedure, generally an incision is hidden in the natural contour of your ear,
then extends around the earlobe and back into the hairline. Following surgery,
incisions can be easily concealed by your hair or with makeup. There may also be
a small incision hidden underneath your chin. |
 |
Can I have other plastic surgery procedures of the
face done at the same time as a face lift? |
|
Yes, very often patients have their eyes or
their brow done at the same time. If the surgery is warranted, the final result
is uniform and balanced and there is only one recovery period. Some patients ask
that their nose be touched up, because as we age, the tip of the nose can start
to sag as well. Other patients find that they have lost volume in their lips as
they've gotten older and request a fat transfer to bulk up their lips for a more
youthful, pouty appearance. |
 |
I have terrible squint lines at the bridge of my
nose. Will Face Lift surgery help these in any way? |
|
The against line will be probably taken care of by
eyebrow lifting and muscle transecting, the lump could be the scar tissue
underneath the cheek skin. |

 |
How long does a face lift last? |
|
No one can say for sure. The clock is turned back, but
keeps on running. Ten years later, you will look better than if you never had
surgery. Many patients never have a second lift, while others may desire further
surgery seven to 15 years later. |
 |
What are some of the most common benefits of this
surgery? |
|
While this procedure cannot stop the aging process, it
can often make a person appear to be a decade younger than their actual age.
Facelifts are the fifth most commonly performed plastic surgery procedures in
the United States. |

 |
How can I hide things during the time until I return
to normal? |
|
Your surgeon will discuss post-operative camouflage
techniques with you prior to your surgery, but be assured that while almost
everyone has some sort of temporary side effect such as bruising and swelling,
there are makeup techniques that both men and women can use almost immediately
to disguise them. Generally speaking, makeup techniques can be used soon after
surgery to cover discolorations, and to hide incision lines after the stitches
have been removed and the incision is completely closed. Camouflage cosmetics
include three basic types of products: Concealers to hide incision lines and
discolorations; contour shadows to disguise swelling; and color correctors to
neutralize color in reddened skin. Color correctors disguise yellowish
discolorations or the pinkness that follows chemical peel and dermabrasion.
Lavender neutralizes or removes yellow, and green has a similar effect on red.
It will take a little patience and practice to master camouflage techniques, but
most post-op patients feel its well worth the effort. |
 |
How soon post-op can the hair be washed? If not for
sometime, do you have any "dry shampoo" available there? |
|
The nurse will wash the hair for you following day
after surgery, then you can do normal hair wash. |
